A lovely person was B

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of B. That’s how I knew him. I met him at Baker Street…through Toby when I was visiting London in the summer of 1990. I will never forget his gentle spirit. I had just lost both my parents and B could not have been more kind; he always made time to talk with me. During those years, Toby and I would be in London for the summer…which usually meant connecting with B and a friend of his, Stewart, who I also remember well. Most times, we’d hang out in a London park…or have a meal at one of the many Stockpots around town. I remember going to their flat in Peckham once. Now I might be wrong here, but I think B and Stewart had planned on cooking us a meal…but when we looked in their refrigerator, we rather went out instead! I think the last time we crossed paths was at a friend’s house in Hampstead. I don’t remember exactly what transpired that day… we all went for a walk and probably stopped at the local. I do remember it was a lovely day. I have thought of him over the years… My only connection to him was through Toby. It brought a smile when she said B had asked after me in their recent correspondence; it was nice to hear he’d remembered me as fondly as I’d remembered him. So now, whenever I think of B, I’ll think on that last time, when we shared a walk on the heath in Hampstead. And how a lovely day was had by all. May he rest in love.
